BROWNSVILLE, Ore. -- Neighbors are calling on law enforcement to enforce speed limits and traffic safety following another fatal wreck on Highway 228 in Brownsville.

Cynthia Perkins lives and works in Brownsville and she says this highway has consistently been an issue. She says that she just hopes that police act on it soon so no more lives are lost.

"I live on this highway and I've almost been in a head on collision with somebody trying to pass me with oncoming traffic," she said. "They ride your bumper if they think you're not going fast enough and they literally push you."

And she says although this is devastating to hear she wouldn't be surprised if that driving is what cost one person their life early Sunday morning.

At around 3 A.M. Oregon State Police troopers responded to a crash on highway 228 in Brownsville near milepost 4.

Officials say a truck, driven by Cody Sanders, was driving westbound when he crossed into the eastbound lane striking 25 year old Jessie Kater - killing her.

"I believe 100 percent there needs to be police presence out here because people take advantage of the fact that there isn't any and they drive recklessly... they drive way too fast," said Perkins.

Sanders had two juvenile passengers in his truck with him when he hit Kater and Perkins says she sees ways tragedies like this could be avoided.

"We see in Brownsville... a lot of Linn County Sheriff's Officers and you very seldom see them pull anyone over for speeding," Perkins said.

She said she just hopes police will act and act soon because she does not want to see any more lives lost off this freeway.

Sanders and his juvenile passengers were uninjured.
