JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- Junction City schools went on lockdown late in the school day Wednesday after witnesses reported hearing yelling followed by what they believed to be a gunshot.
Police responded to the 1700 block of Pear Loop at about 2:51 p.m. They said they’ve responded to multiple calls in the area, one involving the same residence involved in Wednesday’s incident. In the past call, a firearm had been used, so Junction City Police requested backup from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Nearby schools, which were within minutes of their dismissal time, went on lockdown as a precaution. No one was allowed in or out as police worked to make sure the scene was safe.
Officers were unable to determine the location of the possible gunshot and determined there was no credible threat.
The lockdown was lifted at 3:21 p.m.
