PORTLAND, Ore.--   A record 281 new cases of COVID-19 were reported statewide by the Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday, reflecting a new trend involving younger patients.

Officials said 75 percent of recent cases involved people younger than 50. In total, the state has seen 8,931 cases since the pandemic began in February.

One additional death was also reported, bringing the state's death toll to 208. The latest fatality is 91-year-old woman in Marion County who had underlying medical conditions.

OHA also released a weekly report for June 22-28. The report indicates a "resurgence in COVID -19 transmission." OHA recorded 1,402 new cases across the state, which was an 11 percent increase from the previous week.

Meanwhile, testing in the state decreased by 11 percent, OHA said. About 4.2 percent of tests came back positive last week--a slight increase from the week before.

Officials say statewide hospital capacity "remains sufficient for now."
