SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Wet weather didn't dampen the spirits at the 66th annual Springfield Christmas Parade Saturday morning.

Hundreds of community members filled the streets as decorated cars, marching bands and horses processed Main Street.

"This is the northwest," said Springfield resident, KellyAnn Stiles. "We don't give up because of bad weather."

The Springfield Police Department, Willamalane Recreation and the Oregon Riders Society all made an appearance in the parade.

"The in is, small town, Americana, this is our community," said Springfield resident Cathy Erickson. "We love the parade. We love to see who's in it."

Reva Midkiff waited almost two hours in the rain before the parade made its way down Main Street just to catch a glimpse of her son.

"He's in Willamette Leadership Academy," Midkiff said. "He's front row, holding the Marine flag."

She said not even the rain could keep her inside.

"I love my son and if he's wanting to be in the parade, I want to be there for him," she said.

The parade, a 66-year tradition, keeps the streets of Springfield alive and well with the holiday spirit.
