EUGENE, Ore -- A proposed buffer zone in Eugene between marijuana stores moved forward on Tuesday night and will now head to the city council.

The city's planning commission voted unanimously to require marijuana stores to be at least 1,000 feet from each other.

This would only apply to new businesses and wouldn't affect stores that are already open. It would also not apply to medical marijuana sites or sites where marijuana is grown and processed.

Some are for the proposal, saying that it will help curb teen marijuana use. However, not everyone agrees with this proposal.

"The city promotes the Whiteaker brewing and distilling neighborhood," David Nelkin, owner of Eugene Coin and Jewelry owner. "What hypocrisy that numerous community members, and I quote, try to have forced on other city property owners."
