HARRISBURG, Ore. -- A standoff in Harrisburg is over six hours later. The suspect has reportedly surrendered after hours of negotiation attempts by law enforcement officials and was taken into custody peacefully.
Officials asked the public to avoid the area of Diamond Hill Road and Powerline Road. Deputies were staged a half-mile away from the intersection in all directions.
Coburg Police received reports that the suspect assaulted a family member at 4:30 a.m. before leaving in a vehicle armed with a handgun. According to officials, the extent of the family member's injuries aren't known.
Deputies said that the suspect parked at Diamond Hill Road and Powerline Road in a gravel lot. Lane County Deputies were able to contact the suspect on his cell phone at 5 a.m. and had been negotiating since then.
Officials said that the man had not made any threats or demands and had stated that he did not want to go to jail.
Linn County Sheriff's Office and Coburg Police Department were on scene.
