EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene police officers will be on high alert for drunk drivers through Labor Day weekend.
From Aug. 16 through Sept. 7, the department will staff DUII patrols above normal. These patrols and funded primarily through state grants.
Police said they want to ensure enough officers are available to identify, stop and process impaired drivers at a time when more people are expected to be on the road.
If you plan to drink, plan on not driving, police said. Be sure to choose a non-drinking friend to be a designated driver, and don’t let friends drive impaired. Police said you could also call a taxi or take the bus. If you’re hosting an event where alcohol is served, make sure everyone leaves with a sober driver, police added. And always wear your seatbelt.
