Police traced the information and said the original message was misconstrued. They said the original message was shared over and over until it became distorted and believed to be associated with Springfield High School.

After investigating, police are confident there was no threat made towards the school.

They said the person who conveyed the original message was referring to the school shooting in Florida and the national student walkout planned to protest school violence.

Officers are asking students, parents, and community members to help stop the spreading of "the rumor of an act of violence during a student walkout 'tomorrow'."
