Deputies: Teen upset over cell phone fires AR-15 rifle

Deputies say a 17-year-old boy upset over his cell phone assaulted his mother and then fired a rifle inside the home.

Winchester Bay, Ore. -- A 17-year-old boy is in custody, accused of firing an AR-15 rifle several times in his home, causing significant damage.

Deputies were dispatched to the home in the 73,000 block of Highway 101 in Winchester Bay at 9:17 p.m. Thursday night.

Deputies said the teen became upset with his mother over his cell phone and then proceeded to assault her, before being stopped by his father.

They said following the assault, the teen retrieved an AR-15 rifle and began to fire it multiple times inside the home, causing a significant amount of damage.

They said at one point he pointed the firearm at his father, but did not fire it.

No one was injured during the incident.

The teen was transported to and lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Facility on the following charges: unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another, first-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree assault and two counts of menacing.
