EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene neighborhood was terrorized by an escaped dog Friday night, sending one man to the hospital with a bite wound to his face.

Police say it started around 6:30 near the 2000 block of Arthur Street.

That’s when, according to officials, a Rottweiler charged out of his yard and began chasing people aggressively, including a pizza delivery woman.

“The dog came out and took after the Dominos pizza gal that was delivering pizza,” Wade Roberts, a witness, said. “And then when I came back outside to get back in my van, I left and came back and he jumped and almost came in the window of my van."

At some point, police say, the dog lunged at a man who was walking down the sidewalk.

Eugene police Sgt. Gregg Magnus said the injured man was taken to the hospital for what he described as a superficial wound to the face. The victim also “bumped” his head, Magnus said.

“Fortunately, there weren't that many people out in the area and we were able to get here quickly and contain the dog,” Magnus said.

Magnus said the family was cooperating with the investigation.

He said the animal was seized and taken to a shelter.
