ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A small plane crashed at the Roseburg airport Friday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Christavia MK I flipped on its side. Roseburg police said they responded to the airport at about 1:30 p.m.

Police said pilot Malcom Dayton, 63, of Roseburg, who owns the plane, was uninjured. They said Dayton told police he was in contact with the ground attempting to land when a cross wind pushed the plane into a grassy area. He said the wheel broke and the 2019 experimental plane was damaged from whipping around.

Roseburg fire officials said no one else was in the airplane at the time. The Roseburg Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The FAA said they and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

The Roseburg airport remained open.
