EUGENE, Ore. – Maya, a fun-loving Labrador retriever/pit bull terrier mix, is ready to go home with a family that can spend lots of time with her.

Maya loves to play and enjoys getting attention. She also likes going for walks, cuddling and playing with toys.

Shelter staff members say fetching a tennis ball is Maya’s passion. She makes great midair catches and always returns the ball, they said.

Maya can go to a home with children, as long as they are comfortable with a large, rambunctious dog. She should be the only pet in the household.

Maya is 6 years old and weighs 60 pounds. She has been at First Avenue Shelter since Sept. 18. Her adoption fee is $85, which includes the cost of vaccinations, microchip identification, spaying or neutering, a certificate for a free veterinary exam and more.

Every Tuesday, KEZI showcases homeless pets on the Midday newscast at 11 a.m. If you are interested in Maya or other animals at First Avenue Shelter or Greenhill Humane Society, click here.

Greenhill Humane Society is currently undergoing a renovation, and during this time all adoptable dogs are available at First Avenue Shelter.

All kittens, cats and small animals are at Greenhill Humane Society.

First Avenue Shelter is located at 3970 W. First Avenue in Eugene. The phone number is (541) 844-1777. Its hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is closed Sunday and Monday.

To ensure a good match is made, potential adopters must go to the animal shelter in person to meet with the animal and kennel staff.

All family members should be present to ensure the dog is compatible with everyone in the household.
