JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- A Union Pacific train struck and killed a pedestrian in Junction City Thursday night, despite crossing arms and warning lights which officials said were working properly.
Police say the person was hit around 9:15 p.m. just east of Front Street at the intersection of Sixth Avenue.
The victim has been identified, officials said, but the name was withheld pending notification.
All intersections from 18th Avenue through Second Avenue were blocked by the train. Police said the only access to the east side of Junction City is by way of First Avenue.
