SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- PeaceHealth officials updated security measures on Tuesday, ending routine metal detection and bag checks at the Riverbend and University District hospitals.

The changes come after both hospitals went on lockdown on Thursday following two gun-related incidents.

PeaceHealth spokeswoman Marcy Marshall said that starting at noon, security will be posted at the entrances. Patients, visitors and caregivers going through the limited access points will be asked the purpose of their visit and whether they are carrying any weapons, which are not allowed in the hospitals.

"And we're happy to store any 'weapons' that they may have on their person," Marshall said. "That includes, like, pocket knives and multi-tools. So, we'll have secure measures to store them while they're visiting or going to an appointment. So, we're happy to help accommodate them with that."

Caregivers will also be able to enter the building through badge-only entrances at both campuses.

Marshall said these updated security measures will be in place for at least the next few months.

"We're considering this phase one. So, we've dialed back the emergency security protocols," Marshall said. "Now, we're settling into our new normal. We've been through an incredibly trying time since last Thursday, and the thing on top of mind was assuring everyone's safety."

Below are the current open times for the limited entrances at either campus:
