EUGENE, Ore. – A paramedic accused of rape now faces additional charges, according to U.S. Attorney Billy Williams.

Edward Blake, 44, of Cheshire has been charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances, including fentanyl, morphine, ketamine, and midazolam.

As a Eugene-Springfield Fire paramedic, Blake had access to controlled substances from PeaceHealth pharmacy in Springfield, according to court documents. He is no longer an employee at the department.

The new charge comes after Blake was charged in Lane County Circuit Court with first-degree rape and sodomy, strangulation, causing another person to ingest a controlled substance and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Williams said between January 2016 and September 2019, Blake reportedly took about 343 vials of drugs from the pharmacy and did not enter them into his ambulance’s inventory. Court document say Blake used the drugs to sexually assault at least three local women.

Authorities are looking for possible additional victims. If you or someone you know was a victim, please contact the FBI at 503-224-4181 or submit a tip online at https://tips.fbi.gov.

Springfield police officers responded to McKenzie-Willamette Hospital on Sept. 11, 2019, after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by a man who claimed to be a firefighter with Eugene-Springfield Fire.

The woman reportedly told officers she communicated with the man, who was identified as Blake, through Craigslist and Blake sent the victim pictures of medical supplies he said he took from the ambulance, Williams added.

According to court documents, Blake met the woman at a Springfield motel and choked her until she lost consciousness and forced her to take several medications before sexually assaulting her.

Williams said investigators learned that Blake rented rooms at the motel 17 times.

Two additional victims were identified during the investigation. They told officers they received controlled substances from Blake and one was hospitalized several times over the time she knew Blake. Each time, Blake would show up to the hospital and administer drugs to her, Williams said.

Blake is in state custody pending trial. He is expected to make his first appearance in federal court in the coming weeks.
