SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Planned Parenthood is refusing federal funding from Title X because of abortion restrictions put in place by the Trump administration.
The restrictions include forbidding Planned Parenthood employees from referring clients to doctors that provide abortions.
Those most affected by the decision will be low-income clients, as 41% of all Title X visits in the state of Oregon are provided by Planned Parenthood.
"We also have the Reproductive Health Equity Program, which on the short-term basis is committing to helping us fund these visits while we are litigating," said Lisa Gardner, CEO of Planned Parenthood in Southwest Oregon. "But in the long term, if this goes away, there will be people across the state that will be no longer able to get the health care they need."
The Trump administration, as well as pro-life groups, are saying that the refusal of all Title X funding is proof that Planned Parenthood is at its core strictly an abortion provider.
