EUGENE, Ore. -- Stephen Sheehan, owner of Elk Horn Brewery, says he wants a peaceful solution to the controversy -- but he also says he's ready for whatever comes next and that means no repeat of last Saturday's invasion.

"I just want everybody to come together as a community and  let's get a handle on this lawless behavior," said Sheehan.

And that lawlessness is what he says he's against. He says if another protest tries to come to Elk Horn again they'll be ready.

"Not in an aggressive way," Sheehan said, "but we'll be ready, we'll have law officers, law enforcement here."

Jay Bozievich, a Lane County commissioner who represents west Lane County, says he supports Eugene Wake Up.

"Steve is a person who is not anti-homeless. In fact he is formerly homeless and he has raised himself out from that so he understands their issues," Bozievich said.

He said he believes Sheehan's heart is in the right place.

"The only issue he's really having is the lawlessness in downtown Eugene which is not necessarily the homeless," said Bozievich.

Kent Paul works at Elk Horn and was there last Saturday when the protesters arrived.

"I said, 'Let me get a table ready for you,' and (the protesters) said, 'No we're just going to be here for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes tops,' and so that got me a little curious," Paul said.

He says attacks on Sheehan or his character are hateful and could not be further from the truth.

"I've been on a lot of websites and I noticed there's a lot of hate towards my owner, calling him racist," Paul said, "but he's anything but that, and you can take it from someone who looks like me, who has been working here for about a year."

KEZI reached out to the spokesperson for the protest group but have not heard back.

Meanwhile, police say they're still investigating but have not issued any citations in connection to the incident.
