Oregon's Christmas tree arrives in Washington, D.C.

A more than 3,500 mile trip came to an end Monday morning as the Willamette National Forest's Christmas tree finally arrived in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After a more than 3,500-mile trip, the Willamette National Forest's Christmas tree arrived in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Capitol Christmas tree will be hoisted onto the West Lawn. Crews will begin to string it with lights and hang thousands of ornaments on the tree in the coming days. 

The tree was the first U.S. Capitol Christmas tree to be picked from the Willamette National Forest and the second to come from the state of Oregon. 

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, and it's also the 175th commemoration of the Oregon Trail
