EUGENE, Ore. – Holiday travel is well under way throughout Oregon.
Most people who are traveling are hitting the roads this holiday season to get to their destination. The Oregon Department of Transportation wants to make sure you’re prepared if you run into some winter weather.
There could be some hazardous conditions over the next few days in the Willamette Valley, the Columbia River Gorge and the mountains.
ODOT officials said you should make sure to give yourself extra time to get where you’re going. They also said drivers should allow for extra stopping distance if roads are slick and brake gently to avoid skidding.
Also, they said you should make sure you have supplies in your car, like tools, a first aid kid, road maps, extra warm clothes and extra food and water.
It’s not just the roads that are busy, but also the airports.
Friday is one of the busiest days at the Eugene Airport, and also at PDX.
If you’re flying out of Portland, expect a lot of crowds and long lines. In case winter weather hits, be sure to check your flight status to see if there’s any delays.
