Eugene, Ore. -- Oregon women's soccer coach Graeme Abel has completed the hiring process of his new coaching staff with one familiar face and another new one. Manny Martins, who has spent the last six seasons with the Ducks under Kat Mertz, will be returning to the team in the Associate Head Coach role he had with the last staff. Rachel Doyle, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii, will also be making the move to Eugene.
Martins and Abel worked together with the United State Women's National Team during the 2019 Women's World Cup, where Abel served as an assistant coach and Martins as a scout. Martins has also worked with the U20 United States Women's National Team during the 2016-2018 U20 World Cup cycle.
"I've known Manny for years," says Abel. "He was with the U17 national team, I was actually his roomate with the U17's and he's worked with the U20 national team."
"Keeping Manny here was a priority from day one," Abel continues. "We get the added bonus of him being an excellent teacher of the game, role model and having a great eye for talent. Manny’s experiences as part of our 2019 FIFA World Cup staff also gives him unique insight into the world game."
Doyle, who Abel coached when she was a player at Washington State, was a three year team captain in Pullman as well as a three-time second team All-Pac-12 selection. She played professionally in Australia for a season before entering the coaching ranks.
"Rachel Doyle played for me in the Pac-12 prior," Abel explains. "She played for Australia at the age of 17, played for the U20 national team and played professionally as well. So we have a staff that understands the world's game and that's an added advantage."
Director of Operations Maryn Beutler, who played for the Ducks between 2012-2016 and spent the last three years under Kat Mertz, will also remain on staff.
