SALEM, Ore. -- Nonfarm payroll employment in Oregon rose by 13,900 jobs in February, following a gain of 7,000 jobs in the previous month.

Nearly all of the jobs gained in February were in leisure and hospitality, where some fitness centers and restaurants hired back workers as coronavirus restrictions rolled back.

Two other major industries that saw a rise in jobs during the month was transportation, warehousing and utilities and wholesale trade.

Oregon's unemployment rate saw a slight decrease, going from 6.2% in January to 6.1% in February. The nation unemployment rate saw a similar trend and now sits at 6.2%.

Oregon has recovered 46% of the jobs lost between February and April 2020.
