TANGENT, Ore. - A fire destroyed a building at Oregon Powder Coating in Tangent.

Firefighters said the fire broke out at around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday at the private business off Old Highway 34. When they arrived, they said the building was up in flames and employees were trying to fight the fire.

The employees and other businesses in the area were later evacuated. It is unclear if any businesses will be closed for any period of time due to the fire.

More than 50 firefighters from multiple agencies worked to put the fire out. Those agencies include Albany Fire Department, Corvallis Fire Department, Tangent Fire District, Halsey Shedd Fire District, Philomath Fire District, and Jefferson Fire District.

“We're really fortunate in Linn County to have those mutual aide agreements and to be able to work together like this,” said Sandy Roberts with the Albany Fire Department.

The incident also shut down part of Old Highway 34 for several hours. Firefighters were on scene through the night on Thursday working to keep the flames from spreading and put out the rest of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was hurt.
