Oregon Country Fair patrols yield multiple arrests, citations and more

According to Lane County deputies, there were two overdoses in the area of the fair.

VENETA, Ore. -- Patrols in the area of the Oregon Country Fair yielded hundreds of citations and multiple arrests this year, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

The fair, celebrating its 50th year, was held Wednesday, July 10, through Sunday, July 14, in the Veneta area.


Among the multiple arrests were driving under the influence of intoxicants; possession of heroin, mushrooms and LSD; animal abuse; trespass; burglary; and reckless endangering. There were also three warrant arrests.

Deputies said there were two overdoses.

In total, deputies issued 213 citations for lack of seatbelt use, speeding, driving while suspended, distracted driving and more. They also issued 410 warnings.

With grant funding, the sheriff’s office staffed 126 hours of overtime for its deputies over the course of the event, focusing on DUII detection, seatbelt use, speeding and prohibited cell phone use.

Oregon State Police, Eugene and Springfield police and University of Oregon police assisted with 73 hours of overtime patrol.
