WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. -  Douglas and Coos Counties will be seeing a high surf warning for the next couple of days. This means waves will be bigger, stronger, and higher up the beach.

The Coast Guard is recommending you stay away from the beach during this time. If you do find yourself on the beach, do your best to stay extremely vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Even if the water looks safe, they said not to test it.

”You could have one wave that comes up in one area and looks safe for a while, then a series rolls in and water will be coming up significantly higher than before, catching you off guard," said Colin Joyce with the Coast Guard.

Joyce said that not following these warnings could have possibly fatal consequences, and it has in the past. In the last year alone three incidents caused people to lose their lives in Bandon, Gold Beach, and North Bend.

The warning goes into effect Wednesday night at 10pm and continues until Friday morning at 4am. Expect the waves to reach their highest on Thursday morning at 30-35 ft.
