SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A Sutherlin woman and a juvenile male died when the pickup truck they were in hit a tree Sunday night.
Oregon State Police say they responded to a single vehicle crash Sunday at about 8:40 p.m. on I-5 near milepost 144.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Dodge pickup truck driven by Ruth Youngblood, 71, of Sutherlin, was southbound on I-5 when for unknown reasons the truck she was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.
Youngblood was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male juvenile passenger also died at the scene.
A second male juvenile passenger was flown by air ambulance to Springfield with serious injuries.
Family members said on Facebook the two kids were Youngblood's great-grandsons. One of Youngblood's sisters also said in a Facebook post that the surviving boy is still fighting for his life in the hospital.
OSP was assisted by North Douglas County Fire, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
KEZI 9 News reached out to the family for futher comment, but they did not get back to us.
