Officers assaulted by man during DUII investigation in Eugene

At one point, New sprang up from a seated position and kicked two officers who received minor injuries. He had to be physically restrained.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Two officers were left with minor injuries during a DUII investigation in Eugene.

The incident took place on July 3 at 11:21 p.m. when Eugene Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at Club Road. 

The driver, Anthony Izucar New, 24, of Eugene, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after an investigation. He was also found to have a warrant.

According to police, when New was in the back seat of the patrol vehicle, he slipped his handcuffs off and kicked at the illuminate dome light. He then slid down in the seat and placed his feet on the ceiling of the patrol car and kicked at the illuminated dome light.

Police say New was hostile throughout the investigation and his interaction with officers.

At one point, he sprang up from a seated position and kicked two officers who received minor injuries. He had to be physically restrained.

New is currently lodged at Lane County Jail on charges including Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, two counts of Assault on a Public Safety Officer, Interfering with a Police Officer and the warrant.
