ROSEBURG, Ore. – A man is accused of lighting his parents’ home on fire, leading to an officer-involved shooting in Roseburg on Thursday, police say.

Officers first responded to the 1300 block of SE Magnolia Street at about 8 p.m. A report indicated that John Kliestik, 39, was setting the home on fire while his parents were inside.

At the scene, officers confirmed there were flames inside the home and were trying to contact the residents when they were confronted by Kliestik, police said.

The man was a threat to his parents and to the officers, leading to an officer shooting at Kliestik, hitting him in the leg, according to the department.

Kliestik was taken to Mercy Medical Center with injuries that are not life threatening, and the fire was put out.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Detectives are conducting a separate investigation into Kliestik and the fire.
