OAKRIDGE, Ore. -- City leaders in Oakridge are looking far down the road when it comes to transportation, but one city councilor is hoping to hear from more residents before the city finalizes their plan.

The city is currently working to renew it's Transportation Systems Plan, which includes goals and possible projects the city would like to get done in the coming years.

Last week, city councilor Dawn Kinyon took to social media to get the public to weigh in on the plan. Kinyon said she wants to hear what projects residents would like to get done first and get their thoughts on how the city would pay for them.

"The meetings that were set up for the public feedback were poorly attended than I would like them to have been," Kinyon said.

One of the proposed projects would be to reduce the lanes on Highway 58 through town from five to three in an effort to slow speeders and have more people stop in town. It's a move Oakridge resident Margaret Jones doesn't want to see.

"It's hard enough to get out on Highway 58 sometimes, especially hunting season and fishing season, you can't get out there," Jones said.

Oakridge city administrator Bryan Cutchen said just because a project is on the list, it doesn't mean it will get done.

"You have to have resources to be able to do all of that," said Cutchen. "So I don't envision Oakridge in the short term at least getting resources to do all that list."

Kinyon said she plans to share the results of the survey with the rest of the city councilors before they finalize the plan in February or early March.
