Corvallis, OR -- A day after Oregon State football head coach, Jonathan Smith announced defensive lineman Jeromy Reichner would miss all of the season with a torn acl, a number of beavers could be seen on the sideline, limited in practice. Among the notable, safety Jalen Moore was held out of practice and was seen with crutches. While David Morris got to the field late, he was in pads for the first time fall camp. However, he stayed on the sideline going through individual drills. Receiver Trevon Bradford was also on the sideline catching balls without a boot he's been previously seen wearing, but was not in pads.
OSU practiced in Reser for the first time this fall camp. The day ended with a scuffle near the end zone, that was later broken up by coaches and players. Scuffles during practices are typical for just about any football team, but the beavers have been more notable physical this year than last.
"I feel like this defense can be great man," said defensive lineman Elu Aydon. "I mean we come out here everyday to, to work towards perfection knowing that we'll never achieve it and you know that's something that I feel like I tell the boys everyday, and the coaches tell us everyday to keep working. Keep working for perfection even though you know you're not going to get there. It's just, put as much work in to this thing as possible and you'll reap what you sow."
On the defensive end, coaches have put a heavy emphasis on stopping the run this year. Last season the beavs struggled defending run heavy teams, giving up a total of 3611 rushing yards. Teams averaged around 281.8 rushing yard per game against the OSU defense. Defensive Coordinator, Tim Tibesar said the defensive line plays a big part is the goal, knowing that the battle has to start up front in the trenches.
"A couple new faces and stuff like that there have helped out and the returning guys; I think it's kind of the same story," said Tibesar. They're a lot more comfortable, they're more familiar with the techniques we're asking them to do, and they're executing at a higher level than they were a year ago."
Oregon State will host Oklahoma State in week one on August 30th, at 7:30 p.m. in Reser Stadium.
