CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to accept the resignation of President F. King Alexander, during a meeting Tuesday morning.

The board agreed to pay Alexander a lump sum of $630,000, plus $40,000 for relocation. All of the money will come from private donors, not taxpayer or tuition funds.

The board announced Tuesday morning that Alexander had offered to resign, effective April 1.

The news of the resignation offer came less than one week after the board placed Alexander on probation. Administrators said the dynamics of the situation had changed since its last meeting.

“Simply stated, Dr. Alexander no longer has the confidence of the OSU community. This broken trust was expressed not only by the faculty senate, but an outpouring of heartfelt statements from students, alumni and survivors,” said board of trustees chair Rani Borkar.

The OSU board had been facing mounting pressure in recent weeks to take stronger action against Alexander, with a growing number of students and even some Oregon state lawmakers calling for his resignation.

On Monday, the Louisiana State Board of Supervisors went as a far as to pen a letter to the chair of the OSU Board of Trustees in which they placed blame on Alexander and called some of his recent statements “arrogant” and “condescending.”
