CORVALLIS, Ore. – Investigators say they now know what caused a cross-laminated timber panel to fall during construction of the new Peavy Hall at Oregon State University.

Experts said the panel became de-laminated when it fell on March 14. They said the manufacturer of the panel improperly used pre-heated wood materials, which resulted in poor bonding.

Manufacturing is expected to resume and installation of the panels will continue over the next few weeks.

The panels that have already been installed will be tested for strength.

Officials said the mistake won’t add any cost to the construction, but the opening of the hall will be delayed three months to summer 2019.
