NORTH BEND, Ore. -- A student was removed from North Bend High School Thursday morning after posting “I’ll bring the guns” in response to an online discussion about cyberbullying.
North Bend police were notified of the post Thursday morning after a teacher heard about the online discussion and contacted school administrators.
Officers went to the high school at 7:19 a.m. and contacted the student in the cafeteria. The student was isolated, and an investigation was conducted, but no weapons were found. The student admitted writing the message but said he did not intend to bring guns to school.
Police said they take all such statements and threats seriously, and the student was removed from the school. The case will be reviewed by the Coos County District Attorney’s Office.
The North Bend Police Department said parents should monitor their children’s online activity closely and report all threats to authorities immediately, even if a threat is not considered credible. Parents and teachers are asked to remind children that even a false threat can have serious consequences.
