NORTH BEND, Ore. -- A North Bend man died in what appears to be a road rage incident.
North Bend police believe he was intentionally hit by a vehicle on Sunday, Dec. 27. The North Bend Police Department received multiple 911 calls at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday about an incident that resulted in a person being hit by a vehicle at 2719 Union Ave.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found 28-year-old Michael David Moore dead on the street. Officials say he suffered from what appeared to be extensive crush-type injuries.
An investigation revealed that three vehicles were involved in what officials believe was a road rage incident. Officials believe the incident started near the Liberty Theatre in downtown North Bend and then proceeded south eventually ending on Union Avenue.
The three cars involved were a black Ford Ranger pickup, a Chevy Tahoe vehicle and the third one is described as a red Honda Prelude with a light-colored hood.
Officials say that during the incident the black Ford Ranger crashed into a curb and became undriveable. It is believed the victim, Michael Moore was driving the Ford Ranger. According to officials, Moore confronted the driver of the Chevy Tahoe. Shortly after, the Tahoe hit Moore and also hit and damaged a nearby residence.
The Tahoe then left the scene, followed by the red Honda Prelude. Officials found the Tahoe abandoned nearby on Chester Street. According to officials, a witness saw the driver of the Tahoe get into a red Honda Prelude and drive away. Police are currently looking for any information in helping to identify the red Honda Prelude.
A person of interest in the case is 40-year-old Joshua James Thompson, whose last known address is in Coquille. Anyone who knows his whereabouts should contact the North Bend Police Department. The public is asked not to approach Thompson.
