ROSEBURG, Ore. -- New apartment complexes may be coming to Roseburg.

A Eugene-based property owner is planning on building a nine-building apartment complex on Diamond Lake Boulevard and Pomona Street.

Officials from Timberview Construction Inc. said each unit in the complex will have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They also said each unit will have a washer, dryer and balcony.

Colin Kelley from Timberview Construction said the reason they decided to build in Roseburg is because they know there’s a housing shortage in the area.

“The demographic is switching from being more of a rental market rather than a buyer market,” Kelley said. “Just because a lot of people don’t have down payments. People come in with student debt. It’s getting harder and harder to buy a place.”

According to a recent housing analysis done by the city, Roseburg’s population is expected to grow to 35,000 by 2039.

The analysis also indicates the city needs to build at least 2,000 housing units in the next 20 years, or 134 units a year.

Kelley said they are hoping to get the plans approved by the city in the next few months in order to break ground.

He said they hope to finish the project within a year.
