MELROSE, Ore. -- Neighbors are speaking out after an Oregon State Trooper was arrested for allegedly driving into a fence while drunk Sunday afternoon.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said they found Senior Trooper Roger Gorman's 1985 Ford Mustang off the roadway with heavy damage.

Officials said Gorman is facing charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants and failure to perform the duties of a driver.

Neighbors told KEZI 9 News that Gorman is “adored” by the community, which is why they were shocked when they heard the news. They said Gorman has been working for Oregon State Police for the last 20 years. Neighbors said the last thing they want is for Gorman to lose his job over the incident, which is why they hope it blows over soon.

However, others said Gorman doesn’t deserve special treatment.

“As a matter of fact, he should know better,” said Eli Wolfe, who lives in Melrose. “Like I said, he’s seen horrific things in his 20 years I’m sure.”

Officials with Oregon State Police said Gorman is currently on administrative leave until they complete an internal investigation.
