COOS BAY, Ore. --- Neighbors are speaking out after a woman was found dead in her grandson's home on Saturday night.
Even though Teclutsa Margaret “Margie” Sause didn't live with her grandson, Kevin Lee Yates, neighbors said they were together constantly.
"She would come and take care of him. I believe that she would bring him food, she would get him cleaned up and she would come and visit him every day, sometimes two or three times a day. You know, you would see her drive by and I think she was just checking up on Kevin," neighbor Valerie Eiselein said.
Eiselein told KEZI 9 News that based on her interactions with Yates she saw this day coming, but she desperately hoped it wouldn't.
"I really think this could have been avoided if somebody had gotten Kevin the help that I think he deserved or a space that he could've been safe. The community members could've been safe because it could've been anybody," Eiselein said.
Eiselein said she had her own problems with Yates. Last year, she called police after he trespassed onto her property.
Many neighbors told KEZI 9 News that Sause was known around the neighborhood for being a kind person.
Officials said Yates' father is the one who initially called 911 after Sause was found dead.
The Coos County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency in this case.
Officials have still not released how Sause died or what happened leading up to the incident. However, they confirmed Sause appears to have died from homicidal violence.
