"We've already had a lot of crime come up in this area of town at least so I'm concerned about that,” Emily Baker said.

EUGENE, Ore. -- City councilors approved two new safe sleep sites on Wednesday, and some community members are sharing their safety concerns.

At Stadium Park, the student housing apartment complex across the street from one of the sites, residents told KEZI 9 News they're worried about the impact it will have.

While officials say they've done outreach with businesses and residents in the area to get feedback about the decision, that was before the official votes were cast Wednesday.

Now, several residents said safety should be a primary concern when they make decisions like these. Some said they think ultimately things will work out.

“I just don't want people's cars getting broken into or people trying to get into the apartments since it's right there,” Paige Saunders said. “Besides that I think it will be fine."

While others said they believe it is a bad idea altogether.
