Man accused of murdering mother near Lebanon

The man was found with a knife and spit blood in a deputy's face, Sheriff Yon said.

LEBANON, Ore. – A suspect has been arrested, accused of murdering his mother on Tuesday.

Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon said dispatch received a hang-up call from a home on Old Mill Road outside Lebanon at about 10 p.m.

When dispatchers called back, a man reportedly answered the phone and someone was heard in the background yelling for help.

Deputies responded to the scene and found Kris Fiala, 54, with a knife in his hand, Yon said. Fiala reportedly spit blood in a deputy’s face. The man’s mother, 85-year-old Gladys Fiala, was found dead.

Fiala was taken to the Linn County Jail and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated harassment.
