Murder investigation underway after Azalea RV fire

Investigators urge anyone with video of the incident or information about what happened to come forward.

AZALEA, Ore. – The two residents found dead after an RV fire in Azalea were murdered, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says.

Autopsies revealed that Brian Dean, 59, and Maureen Mathabel, 65, both of Azalea, died of homicidal violence.

The RV fire happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Friday at the Meadow Wood RV Park on Autumn Lane. Dean and Mathabel were found dead inside the trailer.

Authorities say the Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the murders with the sherifff’s office the lead agency.
