Motorcyclist in serious condition after crash on Highway 58

Highway 58 was closed intermittently for several hours during the investigation.

LANE COUNTY, Ore. --- A motorcycle crash on Highway 58 Saturday left one man in serious condition after being life-flighted to a local hospital. 

OSP Troopers and other emergency response personnel responded to the report of a crash between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Highway 58 near milepost 14 in Lane County around 12:23 p.m.

Officials said 63-year-old Robert Chambers of Eugene was on his motorcycle and tried to pass a minivan in the oncoming lane. The van was trying to take a left turn when the motorcycle hit the van, causing Chambers life-threatening injuries. 

Chambers was life-flighted to the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend where he is in serious condition as of Sunday evening. 

Highway 58 was closed intermittently for several hours during the investigation.

Officials said the driver of the van remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
