Mother and son rescued from cliff in Coos County

The caller told the sheriff’s office the mother was hanging onto the cliff trying not to fall to the bottom.

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- A mother and her 18-year-old son were rescued Thursday after slipping and falling off a ledge of a cliff at Cape Arago State Park.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office the report came in just after noon, when someone reported seeing the son fall to the bottom of the cliff, appearing injured.

The caller told the sheriff’s office the mother was hanging onto the cliff trying not to fall to the bottom.

Local fire departments along with the Coast Guard responded to the rescue.

Coast Guard helicopters helped with the rescue and transported the mother to the USCG air station and the son was transported to the Bay Area Hospital.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is asking all park visitors to be aware of marked trails and surroundings before exploring.
