SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield Police are still searching for one vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash last week.
The crash took the life of Zacory Hooks, 22, who was walking westbound in the 7500 block of Main Street when he was hit.
Friday night, policed released new information in the investigation. Police say Hooks was first struck by a vehicle and knocked to the pavement. He was then hit by two other vehicles. The second and third vehicles remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation, but the initial vehicle drove away.
Police say dashcam footage from a passerby captured two men running from the scene to a vehicle parked on 75th Street just north of Main. The witness described the two men as late teens to early twenties and white with blond hair, with a third man waiting at the vehicle. Police say the vehicle appears to be light colored or white early model Honda Civic or similar sedan with a loud screeching fan belt. It was last seen on a doorbell camera driving north on 75th Street.
An eyewitness KEZI 9 News spoke to on Saturday said he saw Hooks walking that night wearing all black and looking down at this phone.
