Missing man found dead in South Umpqua River

The man had last been seen in the Winchester area in September 2019.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – A body found in the South Umpqua River on May 9 has been identified as a missing man.

Samuel "Sammy" Davison, 36, went missing in late 2019, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said. 

He had last been known to be in the Winchester area on Sept. 19. Authorities at the time believed he was possibly traveling to the Wolf Creek area in Josephine County.

At about 5 p.m. on May 9, authorities responded to an area near Templin Beach after a caller reported finding the body while fishing.

A forensic odontologist used dental records to identify the body.

An autopsy and scene investigation have been conducted, and at this time, no foul play is suspected.
