SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is opening its new emergency department to patients on Thursday morning.

It is part of a $100 million expansion and renovation project, which will provide more space and privacy.

“We’re dealing with the most intimate parts of people’s lives, and in crisis it’s important to have privacy. Every single room in this department will have that,” said Dr. Mark Brauner, an emergency physician at McKenzie-Willamette.

He says the expansion will allow them to provide better care and meet their pledge to see patients within 30 minutes of arrival.

The new ER will have 19 rooms.

When the project is completed, the total number of rooms will be at 36, more than twice as many as they had before.

The final phase of the project will renovate the existing emergency room and short stay unit and is expected to be completed in January.
