WALTERVILLE, Ore. -- The McKenzie Fire and Rescue team hosted a meeting Wednesday to help people get prepared for a disaster.

They invited the community to the Leaburg training center off the McKenzie Highway to learn more about what to expect and what not to expect in the event of a natural disaster, such as the February snowstorm. The event was set to be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire Chief Darren Bucich said he found people weren't as prepared as they should have been for the winter storm, and he wants to open communication between emergency services and the public.

"We're just doing our best to help our community get prepared for whatever comes their way in the future," Bucich said.

He said depending on the turnout Wednesday night, they could plan more events like this one.
