CORVALLIS, Ore. — Reser Stadium held the first of three mass vaccination clinics on Tuesday for qualifying individuals in phase 1A. The CDC defines this group as high-risk workers and first responders. But officials said that those with intellectual and developmental disabilities were also prioritized.

There were 360 appointments with individuals from Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties on Tuesday. There are another 500 appointments set for Wednesday and 1,050 for Thursday. A total of 500 vaccinations on Thursday are set aside for educators. All doses are from Moderna.

Those interested fill out a short needs assessment survey online and make an appointment for the vaccine.

Officials say that Reser Stadium is the long-term mass vaccination site but those in rural communities can anticipate a rollout soon.

"We will have some type of popup satellite site in cities like Monroe and Halsey so our rural community is able to get their doses in our community," Benton County spokeswoman Alyssa Rash said.

Local residents in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties told KEZI that the vaccination clinics are a step in the right direction.

“I’ve been looking forward to getting this vaccination and I’m glad I finally got it today,” Philomath resident Gregory Brumfield said.

Samaritan Health Services and Benton County Health Department hosted these clinics in collaboration with Oregon State University.

“Globally we are beginning to move forward, and we will be able to return to some sense of normalcy in not too long," Corvallis resident Colleen Works said.

This event started at 10 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Another one will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Finally, the time for Thursday's clinic has yet to be announced.

“I definitely recommend everyone to get a shot," Corvallis resident Sarah Barbuto said. "It's so important. Even for people who might be a little bit on the fence. This is an opportunity to take care of people. It's really a love your neighbor thing in my opinion."
