EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene high school student is getting the chance to run for one the best track programs in the country.
Pierce LaCoste signed his national letter of intent on Saturday with the Oregon Ducks. He's a senior at Marist High School.
His journey to Hayward Field started early. At the age of one, LaCoste said he competed in an all-comers meet and won.
This past year, LaCoste was highly recruited by many colleges, but when the Ducks came calling he said it was a no-brainer.
“I just can't really comprehend it, everyone tells me it’s the best track school in the nation which is absolutely correct,” said LaCoste. "It's scary."
LaCoste said he's done high jump, long jump, and sprints his whole life. He will now be a decathlete for the Ducks.
He credits his parents and coaches for getting him this far.
