Man convicted of Corvallis hate crime released, enrolls at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- An Oregon State University student convicted of a hate crime has been released and is enrolling part-time at the university.

On Dec. 12, Andrew Joseph Oswalt, 28, was sentenced to 40 days in jail and three years of probation for putting racist bumper stickers on cars outside of an anti-racism meeting in Corvallis in 2017. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $500 and not have any contact with the victims.

Oswalt was released from Benton County Jail Jan. 10. He has filed an appeal in the case.
