JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- New cellphone video shows the collision between a suspect and a Junction City motorcycle officer on Thursday.
Police say Derrick Freeman, 25, jumped in front of the officer as he ran. He was later taken to a hospital.
The pursuit began in Benton County where police say sheriff's deputies were on the lookout for two cars that were speeding up to 100 mph on the highway and weaving in and out of traffic. One of those drivers was taken into custody in Benton County. The other car, driven by Freeman, made it to Junction City, authorities said.
When officers closed in on the car, it collided with another vehicle near Safeway, but the other driver was not injured.
As for the passenger that was in the car with Freeman, police said they entered another car and tried to get away, but the attempted carjacking wasn’t successful. They were also taken into custody. Authorities have yet to release the name of that passenger.
