EUGENE, Ore. -- A fight involving three teenage boys ended with an adult pulling a handgun and aiming it at them during the height of Christmas shopping season at Valley River Center, police reported on Monday night.
Melinda McLaughlin, the public information officer for the Eugene Police Department, said two teenagers, ages 16 or 17, began fighting with a third boy around 6:15 p.m. She said a man, who was shopping with his wife and 18-month-old child, attempted to break up the fight when the teens began threatening him.
At that point, McLaughlin said, the man pulled out a gun and aimed it at the teenagers. While holding the teens at bay, he called 911.
No shots were fired, and nobody was injured, McLaughlin said.
Police responded and questioned the man, the teenagers, and witnesses. No arrests were made and no citations issued.
McLaughlin said the case would be referred to Eugene municipal court for possible action.
She described the adult as a marine or possibly former marine.
